When a company car is made available for the private use of an employee a 'benefit in kind' value is calculated in relation to the car. In qualifying circumstances you are required to pay tax on the value of the benefit, depending on several things such as, the car's price - including any accessories, its carbon dioxide emissions and the type of fuel it uses.
The value of the benefit may be less if you pay something towards its cost. If your employer provides you with fuel to use for your private motoring, you will have to pay tax on this as a separate benefit in kind.
This calculator allows you to calculate the 'benefit in kind' value of a company car and, if appropriate the car fuel benefit
• provides an indication of the income tax you would be liable to pay for the provision of company car and car fuel benefit
• offers a “car chooser” option that provides a list of potential vehicles based on your personal criteria returning suitable cars and advising of the potential “benefit in kind”
• details the Green label rating and NCAP crash rating of the selected car(s)
